Pop a Balloon with an Orange Peel π ages 3+ πThis is sooooo cool! Try squeezing the peel of an orange next to a balloon (we used water balloons)…..it pops! The science behind this is that the peel of an orange contains limonene, a hydrocarbon. Balloons are made of rubber, also a hydrocarbon. Hydrocarbons are non-polar substances and non-polar substances dissolve well in other non-polar substances so when the juice from the orange hits the balloon it dissolves some of the rubber and pops the balloon!
