Here’s a fun Halloween activity that will keep the kids amazed, engaged and learning! Crayon resist art is one of our favorite process art activities and to celebrate the season we’re giving it a Halloween twist with our Magic Pumpkins Halloween Activity!
Magic Pumpkins Video
Before starting the activity check out the below video to see how to make your magic pumpkins:
Material Needed to Make Magic Pumpkins:
- White paper (watercolor paper works great, but regular white paper works also)
- Orange & Green Quick Dry Paint Sticks or crayons
- A white crayon
- Watercolor paint & brush
What to do:
- Start by drawing pumpkin shapes on a piece of watercolor paper using the quick dry paint sticks or crayons.
- Next draw faces, letters, numbers or shapes inside each pumpkin using the white crayon.
- Finally, use watercolor paint to fill in the pumpkins and reveal the hidden message! The wax from the white crayon will resist taking the color from the paint and reveal the secret message.
Variations:
I love that this activity can be adapted to different ages and skill sets. For younger kids, focus on shapes & colors. For older kids, create math facts and write the answers inside the pumpkins so they can solve the problem and see if they got the right answer by revealing the number inside!
