Liquid Density Experiment 💦ages 4+ 💦 This is a classic, kitchen, science experiment and one we had been wanting to try! It’s such a great way to teach kids about the difference in densities of various liquids. I tried to select liquids of different colors for added effect and to top it all off we added some solid objects in the end that settled in at various layers of our creation based on their weight. So cool!
MATERIALS NEEDED FOR LIQUID DENSITY EXPERIMENT (affiliate links):

- Water

- Clear, large container
OPTIONAL ITEMS (We added these at the end. You can use them or find similar items around the house to use and experiment with.)
- Marble
- Cherry Tomato
- Plastic beads
- Ping Pong Ball
HOW TO PERFORM THE LIQUID DENSITY EXPERIMENT:
Add the ingredients to an empty, clear container IN THIS ORDER:
- Honey
- Corn syrup
- Dish soap
- Water (dyed red for effect)
- Vegetable oil
- Rubbing alcohol (dyed green for effect)
After all fluids were added, we dropped in a marble, a cherry tomato, plastic beads and a ping pong ball. It was so cool to see the objects float in the various layers based on their weights and densities.
At the end, Nate tried to mix the liquids but they still stayed pretty separate!
Note: For us, the dish soap and water mixed a bit so we probably could’ve left one out.
