Materials Needed to Make Fluffy Snow Slime:
(affiliate links)
- Bowl
- Spoon
- 5 oz bottle or about 2/3 cup of white school glue
- 1/8 cup water
- ½ tsp baking soda
- 2 cups shaving cream
- 1-2 Tbsp contact solution (must contain boric acid and sodium borate)
- Oil or lotion (optional)
How to Make Fluffy Snow Slime:
- Mix together the glue, water and baking soda with a spoon.
- Then add in about 2 cups of shaving cream and mix.
- Next add 1 Tbsp of contact solution and continue to mix. You will see the slime start to form.
- Keep mixing and add small amounts of contact solution as you mix.
- Once the slime starts to separate from the side of the bowl, pick it up and knead it with your hands. This slime is a bit messy and takes a few minutes of kneading to get it to fully form. You can try putting lotion or oil on your hands to help the slime stick less.
- Continue to add small amounts of contact solution until the slime is not sticky at all but be careful not to add too much or the slime will not be as stretchy.
- Once the slime is complete, store it in an airtight container and it will keep for at least a week.
The Hows and Whys of Slime:
Slime is both a polymer and a non-Newtonian fluid. Non-Newtonian fluids behave very differently than normal fluids. As you apply pressure to it, it hardens and when you let it sit, it turns back into a liquid. With slime, if you pull on it very fast it will break, but if you stretch it slowly it pulls apart into long strings. Snow slime is fluffy from all the air bubbles in the shaving cream. The fluffiness will only last a day or so as the shaving cream settles, but you can still store the slime and play with it in the future. It will just feel like regular slime as it ages. And also note that slime does stick to clothing so if you happen to get it on your clothes, just pour some vinegar on the spot and rub it in and the slime will dissipate and come right off.
Variations to Fluffy Snow Slime:
Try adding color to the mixture before you add the contact solution to make fluffy slime in lots of colors!
