Feeling Frames – IKEA Tolsby Frame Activity * ages 3+

Feeling Frames - IKEA Tolsby Frame Activity

I have been looking for a way to use the IKEA Tolsby Frame in an Activity and one day it just clicked! I love finding fun ways for kids to express their emotions and thoughts and these double-sided feeling frames we made with IKEA Tolsby frames did the trick perfectly!  These handy little frames are super inexpensive and can be used for endless DIY arts, crafts and activities. We call these frames Feeling Frames and they are the perfect IKEA Tolsby frame activity!

For our activity, we decided to use both sides of the frames for different purposes. One side being a place for them to draw their “Mood of the Day” and the other side being a place for them to draw a thought bubble that includes whatever they are thinking about at the moment. You can get these frames from IKEA for $0.99 each here or you can also get them on Amazon (link below).

Check out the below video to see the frames in before reading the tutorial:

HOW TO MAKE FEELING FRAMES:

Materials Needed: (affiliate links)

What To Do:

  1. Start by putting together the frames.
  2. Next cut a piece of white paper to fit in the frame.
  3. Tape or glue the child’s photo to the bottom of the white paper.
  4. On the other side of the paper, write “Mood of the Day” near the top of the paper.
  5. Insert the white paper between the plastic inserts of the frame and you are good to go!
  6. Ask the child to draw a thought bubble and include what they are thinking about above their photo.
  7. Then ask them to turn the frame to the other side and draw their mood of the day!
  8. Erase and repeat daily!

I keep these frames next to each of my son’s beds at night with some dry erase markers. These would also work great in a classroom or homeschool environment!
