WHAT TO DO TO MAKE DIY STRAW LETTERS:

  1. Start by gathering 4-5 bendy straws in different colors.
  2. Next you will need to cut the straw into the following as pictured above (Note: Keeping each length a different color helps keep them organized and more easily findable.):
    – 4: 2-inch straight pieces (pink in photo)
    – 6: 1.5-inch straight pieces (orange in photo)
    – 4: 1 inch straight pieces (yellow in photo)
    – 4: short c bendy pieces (1 inch when bent straight and bendy section is compressed)
    – 4: long c bendy pieces (1.5 inch when bent straight and bendy section is compressed) These long pieces need to be combined with another piece to make the big “C” shape. To do this, just bend on of the ends together and insert it into the end of another matching piece.
  3. Once all the pieces are prepared, ask the child to create an uppercase “A” and a lowercase “a” using the straw pieces. Write the letters on note cards if the child needs something to look at to create the letters.
  4. Proceed through other letters of the alphabet: “B” and “b”, and so on.
