Chicka Chicka Boom Boom Activity * ages 2+

One of our all time favorite books is Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin Jr. and John Archambault. My 2 year old is currently obsessed with it and we read it multiple times a day. I love how the story revolves around the letters of the alphabet so I created this Chicka Chicka Boom Boom Activity to go with the book.

MATERIALS NEEDED:

For this fun challenge, you need the following materials (affiliate links):

1. Toilet paper roll

2. Craft sticks – We used green to represent the leaves on the tree.

3. Magnetic letters – We tried foam letters too but they were too lightweight and made the challenge too easy. Magnetic letters had the perfect amount of weight to allow the structure to tip if it wasn’t balanced.

HOW TO DO THE CHICKA CHICKA BOOM BOOM CHALLENGE:

1. Start by balancing four green craft sticks on top of the toilet paper roll to make your coconut tree.
2. Then start adding the letters to the top of the tree. I had Oliver name the letters as he was adding them to the tree for additional letter practice. You will find the letters need to be balanced and not too heavy on one side or the sticks will fall!
3. See if you can get all the letters to balance on the tree without falling!

Once all the sticks are stacked on the tree the challenge is complete! For an additional challenge, lift the tree off the ground while still balancing all the letters!

All of my boys from age 2-8 loved the Chicka Chicka Boom Boom challenge! This activity is great for learning letters, fine motor skills, engineering and problem solving!
