There’s nothing like candy canes to get you in the holiday spirit so I decided to make Candy Cane Writing in the Snow – a winter, sensory writing tray using salt and candy canes! Dylan loved it and it took all of 2 minutes to set up!
And don’t forget to check out our NEW book – 100 Easy STEAM Activities is full of fun games and creative projects to learn early concepts in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math with materials you already have around the house!
MATERIALS NEEDED (affiliate links):
WHAT TO DO:
- Start by adding a piece of red construction paper to the bottom of a tray. As long as it’s approximately the same size as the tray it will sit nicely and does not need to be taped down.
- Sprinkle salt over the paper.
- Write words, letters, number or shapes on index cards. We chose words as Dylan is 7 and is working on reading and spelling quite a bit. You could focus on letters, numbers or shapes depending on the age of the child.
- Give the child a candy cane and ask them to write the words, letters, numbers or shapes on the index cards.
- Shake the tray to reset the salt for the next word.
So festive and fun! 😀
