Sensory bags are a favorite activity in our house so I wanted to put a fun winter twist on one. This Build-A-Snowman Winter Sensory Bag was a huge hit with my 3 year old and 6 year old! They got to build a snowman and I didn’t have to spend an hour getting each of them bundled up! 😂 This activity is not only a great sensory activity, but also an excellent fine motor activity as well!
And don’t forget to check out our NEW book – 100 Easy STEAM Activities is full of fun games and creative projects to learn early concepts in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math with materials you already have around the house!
MATERIALS NEEDED:
- Gallon sealable plastic bag
- Black permanent marker
- About 16 oz of hair gel (We used blue but any color would work.)
- 2 googly eyes
- Orange foam piece
- Scissors
- 5 small black pom poms
- 3 small buttons
- Clear packing tape
WHAT TO DO:
- Start by drawing a snowman on a gallon, sealable, plastic bag with black permanent marker. Be sure to leave off the eyes, nose, mouth and buttons as those will be filled in by the child during the activity.
- Next fill the bag with about 16 oz of hair gel. Hand sanitizer would work too. Our gel was blue and I chose to use colored gel because then it can be wiped away from the snowman to reveal a white snowman underneath if the bag is placed on a white surface.
- Next drop in two googly eyes, an orange nose (We took a small piece of orange foam and cut a triangle.), 5 small black pom poms and 3 small buttons.
- Seal the bag and be sure to remove as much air as possible to prevent air bubbles.
- Lay the bag on a flat surface and use clear packing tape to secure the entire top and bottom of the bag to the surface.
- Finally let the child create a snowman by moving the eyes, nose, mouth and buttons into the correct place on the snowman. Have the child clear away the gel on the body of the snowman to make him white (if Bag was placed on a white surface.
