Here’s a fun take on the classic DIY ice painting activity. Instead of making our ice paints using craft sticks as handles, we used some small animal figurines we had at home. They make perfect handles for the ice paints so your fingers don’t get cold and it makes the painting so much fun!

MATERIALS NEEDED FOR ANIMAL ICE PAINTING:
(affiliate links)
- Ice tray – we used this silicone one from Amazon
- Water
- Food coloring
- Animal figurines
- White paper
- Rocks or tape to keep the paper in place.
How To Make Animal Ice Paints:
- Start by adding 2 drops of fools coloring to each ice cube tray compartment.
- Next add about 3/4 of an inch of water to the ice trays.
- Place one animal figurine into each tray compartment and use the animal to mix the water and food coloring together.
- Place the tray in the freezer.
- After a few hours, the ice will freeze and the ice paints will be ready to use!
- Place a piece of paper on the table and secure it with tape or rocks (if outside). We chose to do this activity outside as it can be a bit messy.
- Now remove the colored paint cubes from the tray and start painting by holding the animal and moving the cubes around the white paper!
So much fun and a great sensory activity and process art project for kids!
