Animal Cracker Hunting * age 1-2

Here is a fine motor skills activity for toddlers that will keep them entertained and help them work on their dexterity.

Animal Cracker Hunting

Animal Cracker Hunting 🐅 age 1-2 🐅

We are past the bottle stage and have stopped using our grass drying rack, but we found a great new way to use it! Simply add animal crackers to the grass and let your little ones collect the animal crackers. Great for honing those fine motor skills!

Supplies Needed

You only need two things for this activity. I’m going to share an affiliate link for the drying rack. When you shop through my affiliate link, I earn a portion of the sale at no extra cost to you.

How To Do the Activity

Just let your toddler sit in their high chair – or on the floor, and put the animal crackers from the bowl into the “grass” of the drying rack.

This teaches the fine motor skills of gripping and pinching. When the animal crackers fall down into the drying rack, they can move the rubber to find the crackers.

Why are fine motor skills important to teach toddlers?

While it is true that just everyday life will teach children both fine and gross motor skills, it’s also an excellent idea to encourage the exercise of these skills whenever you can. You might notice that the more you introduce these fine motor skills games to your kids, the better they will become at grabbing, pinching, and holding things like pencils.
